Sioma Camp

Sioma Camp is situated about halfway between Sesheke and Senanga. The distance from Katima Mulilo (Namibian border) is approximately 115 km. The camp includes a river camp placed on the banks of the Zambezi River 12 km from Sioma/Ngonye Falls and a bush camp some 25 km from the falls outside the north-west corner of the Sioma Ngwezi National Park.

Sioma Camp has a unit consisting of four safari tents, each of which accommodates two people. This unit is mainly designed for the local or regional tourist (although it may be used by other categories of guests as well) and offers basic kitchen facilities and a dining area.

The six luxury safari tents are mainly intended for international guests who are accommodated on a full board/activity basis. The construction of these tents is planned for 2010. Please enquire on status.

The campsite, with an ablution block, dining areas, braai stands, etc., has a capacity of 25-30 people.

Activities at the river camp include trips to the falls, to Lumbe river where you can swim in a huge crocodile free rockpool, sunset cruises, fishing and birding. At the bush camp, the main activities include game drives and walking safaris (game and birds) and may include overnight (one or more nights) camping in the bush or at designated fly camps. A number of viewing platforms have been constructed next to the water holes; two at the bush camp and four in the surrounding area for wildlife/bird viewing and relaxation. Trips to Kwando River at the border with Angola can be arranged.

Cultural activities include visits to villages in the area.

Sioma Camp gets its energy requirements covered by solar power and has a generator as back up. LED lighting is used wherever possible. Water for the swimming pool (and the fish ponds) will be pumped (using pumps driven by the current of the river only) from the Zambezi River (no chlorine) and returned to the river. (Note: construction of swimming pool planned for 2010).

Solar water heaters are used for heating of water.

Last but not the least, Sioma camp offers good quality meals and snacks that are simple yet modern.

The main camp centre has a reception, office, kitchen, restaurant, café/bar and toilets. The other facilities include a library/drawing room, four safari tents (tented chalets). Also available are night vision binoculars and a telescope for star gazing.
