Porte Mannaie: Ferre Gola
Ferre Gola,real name Hervé GOLA BATARINGE, is Congolese musician born in the town of Kinshasa Lingwala March 3, 1976. He is one of Congo's leading musicians and has often been compared to Fally Ipupa. His great voice and mature compostion of songs have set him apart from many musicians of his generation. His last two albums were major hits and now the singer is gering up for the release of his third album Boite Noire. 'Porte Mannaie',his guitar ladden single is a must have.
Besides his qualities as a crooner, the young Herve mastered to perfection the piano and percussion,a skill he is considered to be the most gifted at of his generation. He was spotted in the years 1995 during a carnival by Werrason,one of the pillars of the group Wenge Musica Maison Mère who was at the material time the most popular band in Kinshasa, .
As part of the orchestra Wenge Musica BCBG 4x4 all-terrain at the time, Hervé was the main artist within the Wenge Musica/Werrason group. He really got to shine with the song “Vita Imana” from the “Solola Bien.” This song was well appreciated by music lovers and went on to be the top song of the year. He would go on to compose the master pieces “Amour Intérêt ” and “100 kg”. It is these songs that made Ferre stand out from the rest of his peers.
In 1997, a conflict of egos finally broke up the group WENGE-MUSICA. The two main leaders, Werrason & JB Mpiana separated, and three quarters of the band joined JB Mpiana, and the young Ferré sided with his mentor Werra Son to makes up the band Wenge Musica Maison Mère, he was recruited along with other talented musicians with diverse backgrounds,some of them and homeless youth at the time of joining the band.
Before embarking on his solo career; Ferre caught the attention of Koffie Olomide who inducted the young man in the famous Quartier Latin band for a reported $15,000 contract,which was considered the most expensive at the time. Ferre collaborate with Koffie on 'Sisi Silvi' and compose the master piece “Insecticide” to the album “Danger de Mort”. But soon Koffie and Ferre fell out due to Ferre missing several concerts.
In 20076 Ferre release his debut album Sens Interdit to critical acclaim. The album was a top seller in DRC and also in France,Belgium and Holand. In 2008, he released Lubukulukumu, a CD containing two tracks so Lubukulukumu (Primus song for his sponsor), and a remixed version of Vita-Imana. Another hit album Qui est derrière toi? would follow in 2009.
