Kachanana: Mulati Waka
Kachanana's sophomore album Unplugged is shaping up well, which is just as expected when you have the likes of Ben Blazer,Tazz of Goemi Records and Magg 44 handling the production of the songs. This album is a change of direction for Kachanana, who says she wants to show maturity and diversity on this record. This much is evident on the first single "Mulati Waka" an amazing song who's music video is on heavy rotation on local TV stations and is viral on youtube.
You may not remember "Mbululuka" or "Nizachita Bwanji" two of her singles from her first album Kanyimbo, which didn't do well but served as a launch pad for her career because after the moderate success of these songs, she would go on to collaborate with some of Zambia's finest talent on their hit songs. Mr Bruce's "Guy Wapa Easy" wouldn't have made it to the top of the charts without her amazing vocals,"Bubble Gum Lover" by B Flow and the XYZ love anthem "What Is Love" are many of her features that show what Kachanana can do as a singer.
Its hard to imagine how she can sing in 6 languages when she spent her childhood between Lusaka and the Copperbelt and was only able to visit her native home in western province in her adulthood. It's no small feat and Kachanana had this to say about the language diversity on her album.
" Kaluvale was the hardest language to sing in because I had to get the accent right and still maintain the melody of the song. As you can hear from the first single,I decided to promote my languange lozi because most of my songs before this album have been in nyanja and English."
She calls her new sound "Afro Pop Soul" and hopes to get international distribution for her 12 track CD will be in local stores in June. Come May she is premiering a brand new Music Video for "Freedom Africa",a song that talks about togetherness.
Between 2007 and now,Kachanana has been busy with her every day work at ZNBC TV where she produces and presents People's Choic,A Zambian music show that features Zambian music videos.
