Minister of Information, Broadcasting and Labour Fackson Shamenda says the Freedom of Information Bill will be tabled before Parliament by July this year.

Mr. Shamenda says currently government is holding consultations on the proposed piece of legislation.

The Minister however, was unable to state the time frame in which the Bill will be enacted into law.

He was speaking at the send off ceremony of eight media, Civil Society Organisations and officials from Ministry of Information, Broadcasting and Labour who are going to the United States of America.

The group, which will be going to America from February 25-11 March 2012 will be in that country to among other things understand how the US media has evolved over time.

Earlier, Zambia Daily Mail Deputy Managing Editor Anthony Mukwita said the media is happy that government has shown commitment towards the enactment of the Freedom of Information Bill.

Meanwhile, US Ambassador to Zambia Mark Storella said Zambia is a leader in democracy and good governance.

ZNBC's Acting Director General Mukubesa Sanyambe and other media heads attended the send of ceremony at the American embassy in Lusaka.
