Harmonize State security Act with Freedom of Information law, state urged.
Transparency International Zambia (TIZ) says government should harmonize the State security Act with the freedom of Information law which is yet to be enacted.
TIZ Executive director Goodwell Lungu has told QFM News that failure to do so will allow public officers to use it to deny the people of Zambia information on issues of public interest.
He adds it is important for the country to have a mechanism in place that will accord members of public an opportunity to have access to information while at the time ensuring national security is safeguarded.
Mr. Lungu notes that it is important that the people of Zambia are given the right to question the how public funds are being spent.
Mr. Lungu notes that citizens' involvement in budget execution will ultimately improve service delivery and contribute to transparency and accountability in the country's governance system.
