The Fire Services Association of Zambia president Fackson Banda says it is an isle to look at the equipment that fire brigades in the country have.

Mr. Banda who appreciated the existing equipment at fire brigades said there is need for councils to be given modern fire tenders that will enable them service their communities well.

He was speaking this morning at a two day meeting for chief fire officers and officers in charge of fire brigades in Zambia that is being held in Solwezi district of Northwestern Province.

He urged chief fire officers to ensure their resolutions are properly presented to the relevant ministry for government to act upon them.

Mr Banda also observed that Solwezi which is the fastest growing district needs proper fire fighting equipment in order to protect the huge investment taking place.

He further called on the chief fire officers to come with a mechanism that will enable them follow up resolutions presented to government.

In another development, the Fire Services Union of Zambia (FSUZ) has implored its members and those belonging to Zambia United Local authority workers Union (ZULAWU) to take heart as the union concludes improved condition of service and salaries with government.

FSUZ general Secretary Lawerence Tubi told journalists in Solwezi the union leaders recently met government to conclude the negotiations which will be signed soon.

Mr. Tubi further commended government for seeing to it that FSUZ and ZULAWU members are well remunerated.

He has since called on all the members from the two unions to remain calm and avoid agitating for anything but wait patiently for the union leaders to sign the 2012 collective agreement with government soon.
