Zambia gets funding for decentralisation from German
Zambia and German have signed a ZMK550 billion Finance and technical cooperation agreement.
Of the ZMK550 billion, ZMK221 billion will go towards poverty reduction budget support with particular emphasis on water and sanitation.
German Ambassador to Zambia Frank Meyke says ZMK216 billion will go towards integration of climate change while ZMK113 billion is for good governance, decentralization and the fight corruption and HIV/AIDS.
Mr MEYKE disclosed this during the signing of a finance and technical cooperation agreement with Finance Minister Alexander Chikwanda.
And Ambassador Meyke has called on the government and the opposition to work together for the good of the Zambian people and to strengthen democracy.
And Finance Minister, Alexander Chikwanda says there is need to diversify the economy for the country to create employment for its people.
He says although Zambia has managed its macroeconomic fundamentals well, employment creation and poverty reduction still remain a major challenge.
Mr. Chikwanda who is also acting President further assured the German government of Zambia's commitment to upholding good governance and the fight against corruption
