FODEP hails peaceful campaigns
The Foundation for Democratic Process (FODEP) has observed that the campaigns ahead of tomorrow's by-elections in Muchinga, Chama North and Livingstone constituencies were generally peaceful.
Reporting on the state of campaigns in the build up to the polls, FODEP Executive Director MacDonald Chipenzi however recommended the need to strengthen enforcement mechanisms of the electoral code of conduct.
Mr. Chipenzi said the same issues of electoral malpractices have continued to characterize the country's electoral process, calling on all stakeholders to ensure the trend is stopped.
The FODEP Executive Director has further pointed that government needs to regulate the number of ministers taking part in political campaigns.
He says having a large number of ministers in campaigns has the potential to create loopholes for the abuse of public resources such as public transport.
Mr. Chipenzi has further appealed to the Zambia Police Service to provide security to electorates from the notorious Mailoni brothers ahead of polls tomorrow.
And Mr. Chipenzi has urged the Electoral Commission of Zambia to improve on the transportation of the election materials and results far-flung areas of Muchinga constituency.
He says doing so will reduce the delays associated with announcing of final results.
