Police arrest notorious criminal

Police on the Copperbelt have arrested a suspected armed criminal who allegedly snatched 170 million kwacha cash from Chingola's BP filling station about a month ago.

The incident happened yesterday around 16 hours within Kitwe town when police with the help of members of the public managed to apprehend the notorious criminal who has been involved in a spate of robberies both on the Copperbelt and Lusaka.

Police service spokesperson, Ndandula Siamana says in the process police recovered a pistol with seven rounds of ammunition and three motor vehicles.

She says the three vehicles recovered are a VW golf which is suspected to have been stolen at gun point from Lusaka, a Toyota CAMI registration number ACM 132 and an unregistered Toyota crown majestic.

Ms. Siamana has identified the suspect as Kelvin Nkanka aged 30 of Kitwe's Twatasha compound, while three of his accomplices are on the run.

She says the arrested criminal and his colleagues who are on the run are believed to be ex-convicts who were released from Kamwala prison last year.

Ms. Siamana says the arrested criminal has since been charged with aggravated robbery, while a manhunt has been launched for the three criminals on the run.
