Egypt seek friendly with Zambia after Senegal cancel

Pharaohs request friendly with Zambia to fill gap in schedule after Senegal pull out of match timetabled for 25 May.

The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) contacted their Zambian counterpart Sunday to organise a friendly between the two national teams ahead of June's continental qualifiers.

The EFA have turned to Zambia after Senegal backed out of a friendly scheduled for 25 May at the Pharaohs' training camp in Sudan before they face Mozambique in a World Cup qualifier on 1 June.

“The association sent an official fax to the Zambians asking them to play the last friendly at our camp in Sudan,” EFA spokesman Azmy Megahed told Ahram Online.

Under the helm of American coach Bob Bradley, Egypt will play their first friendly in Sudan against Cameroon on Sunday before they play Togo on 22 May.

The seven-time African champions were supposed to play the games in Morocco but were hit by a last-minute snub. Egyptian authorities refused to allow the matches to be played on home soil for security reasons, as the presidential elections will take place on 23 and 24 May.
